The energy sector has remained generally untouched for the last 100 years and is now very outdated.
With the improvement in smart technologies and renewable generation, disengaged customers are wanting to regain control of their energy use. This is spurring a huge change throughout the market.
Pietro di Maria, Chief Commercial Officer at GNE, believes that smart meters will lead the revolution in the energy sector by allowing utility companies to alter costs depending on supply and demand.
Whilst it’s inevitable that the grid needs to be updated to support new technologies and steer away from fossil fuels, it seems that creating one centralised system could still be a while off.
Whatever comes of the energy sector, one things for sure; it must allow for new technologies and renewables to shift the power back to the consumers.
